Okavango Delta - Young Explorer's Okavango Delta

This specialised safari programme keeps children and parents entertained and engaged, from target practice to tracking lion spoor and campfire cooking lessons! Hosted by a specialist guide, the safari is tailored to suit each family with age-appropriate activities and a flexible schedule. What is new about Young Explorer’s is that you can now base it at any Ker Downey Camp - from the recently rebuilt Footsteps Shinde if you would like a private, more authentic experience through to any other property if you prefer a few more ‘modcons’.

Chobe National Park - Chobe Elephant Camp

Chobe Elephant Camp is situated away from the busy Kasane area in an elevated setting looking out across the Chobe floodplains. With a relaxed and welcoming atmosphere, this camp offers one an authentic experience in Chobe for a really good price. With family chalets and some alternative activities including a visit to a local school and village as well as seasonal canoeing on the Chobe floodplains, this camp is an excellent family-friendly Chobe option.

Moremi Game Reserve - Camp Moremi

Camp Moremi gets a few extra ‘brownie points’ for families looking for a very comfortable safari at a very comfortable price. First, their family tent boasts 2 bathrooms (most camps share the one bathroom). Second, the camp is pretty luxurious for the price point. Third, the staff are welcoming and fun, and finally, their year-round activities are perfectly suitable for children. Being situated in Moremi Game Reserve the activities are game drives and motorboating right up into the heart of the Okavango.

Boteti River Makgadikgadi National Park - Meno A Kwena

Delightfully informal, a little quirky, Meno A Kwena is a firm favourite for a relaxing pre- or post-safari adventure. The dry season offers fantastic game viewing from camp and the floating hide, and kids will enjoy cooling off in the rock pool with an amazing view across to the Makgadikgadi National Park. The Bushmen are great ambassadors of their culture, sharing their traditions with humour and humility – show me any child that doesn’t want to learn how to make fire!

Dinaka Private Reserve - Dinaka Camp

Kids like something a little different and this is what Dinaka offers, a great contrast to the more game-drive-focused traditional safari areas. Game-viewing hides putting you only metres away from wildlife, a family-sized sleep-out deck with panoramic views AND a pretty cool Bushmen walk will get the family involved and engaged. These activities typically suit the dry winter season months as wildlife throngs to the waterholes dotted around the reserve, as opposed to your more traditional ‘Kalahari green season’ experience.

Victoria Falls (Zambezi River) - Waterberry Zambezi Lodge

The welcome at Waterberry is always vibrant and warm. This independent lodge, set on the Zambezi River, offers families several accommodation options from interleading cottages and the Owl Cottage in the main camp through to exclusive use of Waterberry Farmhouse. More ‘grown up’ families can enjoy the Woodlands tents that offer exceptional value. There are choices of activity inclusions, and your days are customized to fit in as much, or as little, as you want. Venture out to visit Victoria Falls and embrace the bustle of Livingstone town activities, or enjoy a little more down time and activities in camp.

Hwange National Park - Somalisa Acacia

Somalisa Acacia is the family-focused side of Somalisa Camp in Hwange National Park. Featuring two family tents and no age restrictions for children, it is ideal for those wishing to share a safari experience with younger kids. The classic-style tented rooms are enhanced by some special extras like a fireplace for cold winter nights as well as a welcoming big bathtub!

Matusadona National Park - Fothergill

This little piece of paradise was ‘reborn’ in 2021 when the old Fothergill site was brought to life as a luxury tented camp in Matusadona National Park. The camp has two exquisitely designed family suites, each with their own bathroom, a private lounge and plunge pool. From this luxurious base you have a front row seat to Matusadona’s great wilderness. Enjoy boating and fishing on Lake Kariba, game drives through wildlife rich floodplains and forests and some in camp fun ‘stuff’ like archery and nature walks

South Luangwa National Park - Mfuwe Lodge

Come here at the right time of year and the elephants come to see you! The wild mango tree, within the lodge grounds, is a popular treat for the elephants between September and December and you may get to see the elephants meander through the lodge reception to the tree. With several family rooms, Mfuwe Lodge is ideal for families with facilities and a safe environment that caters well for kids, yet still situated within South Luangwa National Park.

Lower Zambezi National Park - Potato Bush Camp

Potato Bush is a small family-friendly camp offering spectacular panoramic views overlooking the Zambezi River in the heart of the Lower Zambezi National Park. The family tent is not your normal safari family tent - this one comes complete with a huge central living and dining area, a fully stocked fridge (to keep mum and dad happy) and a private balcony with a swimming pool. Enjoy private game viewing activities predominantly by vehicle and boat, unless the children are 12 years and over when they can join in on the canoeing and walking safaris as well.

Sabi Sand Nature Reserve - Sabi Sabi Bush Lodge

Children of all ages are welcome at Sabi Sabi Bush, making this not only a downright fantastic lodge - offering complete luxury in a prime wildlife area - but one of the best family safari experiences. The Elefun Centre provides a supervised, interactive children’s facility offering a Junior Tracker programme for four- to eight-year-olds and a Junior Ranger programme for nine- to 12-year-olds.
